The Thai Baht ฿?

Thai Baht is the official currency of Thailand and was introduced in 1987. It is the worlds 10th most used currency and according to Bloomberg news was the best performing currency of 2018.

The denominations for Thai banknotes are ฿20, ฿50, ฿100, ฿500 and ฿1000 with coins coming in denominations of ฿10, ฿5, ฿2 and ฿1. In 2012 the Bank of Thailand issued a new denomination note of 80 Baht in celebration of queen Sirikit’s 80th birthday, this note was later taken out of circulation in 2016 but many are still kept for commemorative reasons.

So how much cash do you need in Thailand? FOOD and DRINK – Food and drink are generally very cheap in Thailand, average price for a meal with a drink is 100 Baht, but try looking for a smaller more traditional Thai restaurants where you can find Thai dishes like pad thai or thai green curry for as little as 40 Baht, and if you’re a bit more daring try eating at some street vendors at the local markets which are even cheaper.
